Twilight's Destiny by PluckyNinja Twilight's Destiny by PluckyNinja
So, there was one more thing about the season finale that I forgot to mention in my initial reaction blog post (found here: [link]), which didn't quite pass the sniff test but it took a little longer to sink in. I figured the most effective (and entertaining) way to describe the problem would be via a comic, so here you go.

Basically, the second half of the episode more or less negates the message of the first half, and that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe I'm not giving the writers enough credit, since for all I know this could be a very important part of the supposed Princess Twilight three episode arc that Meghan McCarthy mentioned, however at this point, I can only really judge the season finale as a single episode.

SPECIAL THANKS: Deviant BeltedYapper suggested the song "Free Will" by Rush as a companion to this comic. It even mentions Celestia (sort of)! Listen to it here: [link]

It seems like the biggest problem of the episode is that the focus and structuring made the whole ordeal feel lackluster which made the concepts presented in this (awesome) comic feel more flawed and contrived.

However, in the spirit of Lauren Faust, I'd like to share what might have been considered a "better" episode based on "fixing the flaws" (quotes are there for a reason):

Psch, the biggest problem is that toy marketing got to influence the show period. Simple as that. : P

In the alternate timeline I'm working on, Celestia edited out all the dangerous or unfinished spells before she sent Starswirl's journal to Twilight. Knowledge of the spell that turned Celestia and Luna into Alicorns went to the grave with Starswirl.
I had the idea of him being their father. The future princesses were born mortal and were changed to free all the unicorns from having to use their energy to raise and set the sun every day, which allowed them to focus their attention on advancing the study and understanding of magic. Starswirl never intended for his daughters to become the rulers of Equestria.

The citizens likely came to hold their heroes in high regard for all the good they did, like stopping Discord. Seems to me that in the wake of Discord's defeat, the land would be a mess and the tribes might have started fighting over how to set things up. Celestia and Luna might have ended up taking over to prevent a costly three-way civil war.

Not sure how well this all really works. I would appreciate opinions, thoughts, and ideas.

The Mane Makes the Pony was really interesting. Pinkie looks good with a short mane. Any chance of a continuation, or is that story complete?
