So, there was one more thing about the season finale that I forgot to mention in my initial reaction blog post (found here: [link]), which didn't quite pass the sniff test but it took a little longer to sink in. I figured the most effective (and entertaining) way to describe the problem would be via a comic, so here you go.

Basically, the second half of the episode more or less negates the message of the first half, and that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe I'm not giving the writers enough credit, since for all I know this could be a very important part of the supposed Princess Twilight three episode arc that Meghan McCarthy mentioned, however at this point, I can only really judge the season finale as a single episode.

SPECIAL THANKS: Deviant BeltedYapper suggested the song "Free Will" by Rush as a companion to this comic. It even mentions Celestia (sort of)! Listen to it here: [link]

I have heard about your state-of-the-art high-tech mechanical augmentations.
Give me EVERY AUGMENTATION YOU HAVE ON THE MARKET.
AND THE X1 BIOCHIP, THAT YOU USED TO END VERSALIFE'S NEUROPOZYNE ONCE AND FOR ALL.
NOW.
Kind regards,
Twilight Sparkle"

It's been so long since I've thought on this episode, but this is one of the primary reasons why people don't like it.

This goes against what really happened, your making a problem out of something that isn't a problem. Make the canon work, don't change it.

And here's how your comic also negates what the episode taught.
We saw how a pony would be terrible at the job or activity that goes with an imposed destiny. So why would Celestia grant the highest title of authority on someone who would be a terrible ruler?

Twilight wont be a horrible ruler. After everything that has happened, after everything Twilight has learned, and with the help of her friends Twilight Sparkle would make an impressive leader.

Also, the fact is Lauren Faust had always planned on Twilight being Princess Celestia's successor/heir. Lastly Twilight did not have a problem with Celestia making her a princess, as such it wasn't against her will.

It would be no different then a manager making an employee an supervisor but not talking about it before hand. Now if the employee didn't want to be a supervisor, he could then tell the manager so, and such a discussion of choice could come up. Since Twilight did not have a problem with it and accepted her destiny it works out.

The episode teaches two lessons, one that a person does not have to accept the destiny placed on them and that it is also okay to accept one's destiny as it is not always a bad thing.

Could somebody explain to me why all these anticorn pics are ending up in this ShadowxTwilight club?
